The "tricodeur" is a project dedicated to the hacking of a knitting machine in order to explore stitch design with computer programming techniques. This project is the result of a collaboration between 2Roqs, Louis Eveillard, searcher at EnsadLab, and Sew&Laine, a Bordeaux textile-related association.

The residency was held at Sew&Laine from the 2nd to the 6th of September.
Louis Eveillard hacked the knitting machine by re-programming it with custom-made tools : several algorithms patterns replaced the old-fashioned patterns that were preset in the machine.
A font was specially designed by Émilie Coquard to allow the display of text on stitches.

The workshop took place at Cap Sciences from the 10th to the 12th of October. The few participants explored both knitting and interactive coding by creating patterns that were directly linked to their personal online data. Not only those footprints created when using social media websites fed algorithms for the tricodeur but also made the participants think of potential issues that could arise from this active and passive consumption of such websites on a daily basis.

La semaine digitale showcase

The tricodeur was showcased at the 4th edition of La semaine digitale in Bordeaux, from the 13th to the 17th October. The creations made during the workshop and the knitting machine were shown during a whole week in the lounges of the City Hall of Bordeaux.
