Lemur

The Lemur is a multitouch device created by Bordeaux-based pioneers Jazzmutant.

Multitouch interface

The Lemur device is composed of a multitouch surface on which it is possible to upload interfaces created by hand from a software provided by Jazzmutant. Several widgets are available in the library, though it is not possible to create one directly from scratch.
One of the most interesting part -from a programmer's poitn of view- is the ability to connect the Lemur on an ethernet network, thus allowing it to talk with other devices, through the Osc protocol. Communication is bidirectionnal, meaning it is possible to receive and process datas from an osc-capable software and also to send commands at the same time.

Cube & Tetris

Jazzmutant kindly lent us a Lemur for a Processing workshop organised by Medias-Cité in June 2006.
We experimented with it during one week and we interfaced the device with Processing and Vision Factory animations (respectively Metaballs and Barbican application).
Of course we barely resisted to use the Lemur as a display device, by using a computer-driven matrix of buttons considered as single pixels ( on / off states ). This scheme was used to draw a wired cube and also some frames of a video.
At the end, we combined both drawing and human interface capabilities of the Lemur to program the first multitouch Tetris ever.
